Aliens

This M10 marine helmet is made from a pair of plastic replica M1 helmets. One forms the base while the other is cut to provide the thick front plate and side plate above the earpiece that has been made from a set of ear defenders cut down.. The lobster plates are plasticard with milliput ridges and the camera is a resin cats part.

The technical kit used by Private Hudson to open the colony door was a collection of electronic parts and tools in a custom wallet. For my copy I have been forced to improvise somewhat, building ht ecircuit boards and LCD out of plastic and the keypad out of balsawood. The various parts are mounted on thin card with strips of fake leather fabric at each end. The wallet itself was made from an Israeli army map case.

This copy of the classic M41A pulse rifle was made almost entirely form plasticard. However, parts of an airsoft SPAS 12 were used for the grenade launcher. I was lucky enough to be able to get this autographed by Michael Biehn at a convention.

This model of Corporal Hicks' shotgun uses parts from two air soft guns. Firstly a pump action shotgun that had its ejectoon port covered in plastic to resemble an Ithaca model gun and the barrel and magazine were replaced by suitably wide plastic pipe cut to the correct length. Then the back end of an air soft MP40 was used to make the grip section.

Star Wars

This is the basic version of the DH-17 carried by rebel fleet troopers in 'A New Hope.' This model is actually the second one made, the first being a prototype to prove that it was possible. This second model then corrected the slight errors of the first. That prototype still came in usful though when I was able to get it autographed by Christopher Patrick Nolan, the actor who played the rebel trooper who yells "Launch!" in 'Rogue One.'

Instructions for making rebel fleet trooper blasters and other DH-17 types can be found in the Projects section.

This is the modified verison of the DH-17 that was first seen in 'The Empire Strikes Back' carried by the rebel soldiers on Hoth. Some of them also carried the original fleet trooper version and in the Rebel Legion either type is acceptable for the Hoth Trench Trooper costume.

Based on the German Stg-44, the Blastech A-295 was carried by rebel troops on Hoth. This model was built using massive amounts of plastic pipe to give me a weapon that was light enough to easily carry at conventions.

Another version of the DH-17, this was one of the variants seen in 'Rogue One' carried by rebel soldiers on Scariff. I made this because I was already familiar with making the DH-17 (this was the third one I made) instead of undertaking the more complicated construction of an A-300 carbine or rifle.

Many of the rebel soldiers in 'Rogue One' wore a helmet obviously based off the US M1 pattern steel helmet with an added outer armoured ring. This copy of the prop uses the same plastic M1 replica as the Aliens M10 helmet for the basic helmet without any alteration. The outer armoured ring was then made from two more of the same type of helmet. I have not prepared written instructions for this but there is a video guide on my YouTube channel.

Glimpsed brief during 'Rogue One' and then again in 'Solo', this is the Corporal Casrich helmet. Made largely from plasticard, a construction guide can be found in the Projects section.

First seen in 'Return of the Jedi', and then again in 'Rogue One' the Endor trooper donut is worn by many rebel soldiers. The donut is made entirely from plasticard (for far less than what one of the available kits would have cost) and instructions can be found in the Projects section.

One of the most basic replica props presented here, this is the disk used by the Rebel Alliance to store the stolen plans of the Death Star in 'A New Hope.' Instructions for making this can be found in the Projects section.

Terminator

The Westinghouse phased plasma pulse rifle from the original film 'The Terminator' carried by Kyle Reese was basd on a bullpup Valmet rifle. With no suitable replica of this rifle available, this prop had to be built from scratch using plasticard, balsawood and some lengths of pipe. The magazine was made by cutting down one from an L85A1 rifle.

This is the second replica I was able to get autographed by the actor Michael Biehn.

Warhammer 40,000

This las gun replica is built around a length of plastic pipe that runs all the way back to the start of the stock. By bracing the other parts against this the prop is very sturdy. It should be noted that although some source material suggests a las gun is only 90cm long this model is about 120cm long, around the same length as real world battle rifles such as the Heckler & Kock G3 or FN FAL. This makes it more in scale with the weapons shown on Games Workshop Imperial Guard figures.

The only structural difference between this prop and the Cadian las gun variant is that more of the core pipe is exposed while a longer piece of pipe is used for the lower strut.

Modelled after the folding stock carbine on the Imperial Guard tank accessory sprue, this model uses the same body design as the Catachan las gun but the length of the barrel is greatly reduced and the fixed plastic stock is replaced by a folding one made from 6mm copper pipe.

In hindsight solid copper wire would have been easier to work with.

Star Trek

Modelled after the diamond shooting bamboo cannon from the original series episode 'Arena', this replica was made from a length of plastic duct pipe with balsa wood used to give it the appearance of thickness as well as to block off the rear end. String and rope covered in tissue paper were used for the external details.

This prop was made to add a more unusual feature to a costume for a Star Trek convention where not quite everyone seemed happy to see me...
