Space: 2299

When I began to write my Space: 2299 fiction I knew that I wanted to modify the design of the Eagle and Hawk spacecraft from the original Space: 1999 TV series while keeping the same general appearance.

The Eagle shortens the detachable module, in this case the basic passenger carrying module, in favour of a dedicated air lock that is an integral part of the lifting body. The original design had a militarised variant armed with a ship-to-ship laser but this was not externally visible. For my variant I used the hotshot volley guns from a Games Workshop Taurox APC as the easily visible gauss cannons. The defensive turret added in the second series was built using the smaller hotshot volley guns from Militarum Tempestus models.

The Hawk is a dedicated attack craft that like the Eagle had a laser that was not visible on the model from the TV show. Again I used Taurox hotshot volley guns for the gauss cannons that I mounted on the wings instead of under the cockpit. The lower part of the hull was cut away to form an internal weapons bay to take missiles made from the hunter killer missiles from Imperial Guard kits. the same type of missiles were also mounted beneath the wings while a defensive turret was mounted on the upper hull.

Eagle and Hawk model kits are copyright MPC.

Star Trek

These 28mm scale miniatures were converted from a variety of sources. The male figures use various Games Workshop Cadian components with bare heads from West Wind while the female figures are converted from a mixture of sources.

To accompany the figures above this shuttle was made entirely from plasticard.

Instructions for the figures and shuttle can be found in the Projects section.

UFO

This model of the alien spacecraft from the Gerry Anderson TV series was made from a variety of spae parts, starting with a transparent plastic easter egg container and creating everything else in scale to this.

Figures of the alien crew were purchased from Crooked Dice.

Warspite

To go with my Warspite stories I made this model of the CSV Warspite itself from plasticard. At 400mm long it is 1:2000 scale. It is fitted with the mission adaptive modules used in the first story, An Oncoming Storm. These are detachable from the main model, using magnets to hold them in place.

The CSV Pegasus, the scout ship from An Oncoming Storm can be removed from its module, also being held in place with a small magnet. It is shown here with its wings deployed for flight and folded for storage.

Scratchbuilt Armoured Vehicles

This is a set of scratchbuilt vehicles for which I used just a single sheet of 330mm x 220mm 1mm thick plasticard for the core and then added various details. The basic templates for all of these are available in the Projects section.

The figures used with these tracked vehicles are from EM-4 future troopers range.

Main battle tank.

Infantry fighting vehicle.

Armoured personnel carrier. This uses the same core as the IFV but without the turret.

Command vehicle. Again this uses the same core as the IFV.

Armoured recovery vehicle. This also uses the IFV's basic core but with different details.

Wheeled Of World Explorers

The off world explorer is a wheeled vehicle that also uses just one sheet of plasticard for its core. However, being wheeled it also requires some short lengths of plastic tube for the wheels.

The plans for the core are in the Projects section.

The basic civilian explorer presented in the plans can be configured as a four or six wheeled vehicle or as an eight wheeled flat bed.

The addition of a compact turret turns the basic civilian vehicle into an internal security vehicle for law enforcement or paramilitary forces.

A trailer created by doubling up the rear section of an explorer has been used to extend this variant into a mobile research vehicle.

The design of the explorer also makes them useful as military vehicles. These two versions have been armed to create lightly armoured second line support vehicles.

This is an eaxmple of a more ad hoc combat vehicle, probably used by mercenaries who do not have access to true fighting vehicles and could be the sort of vehicle used by player characters in a sci-fi roleplaying game.
