“Sure ya aint comin’ an all?” Hauzg asked Salia and Sophie. The sun was just setting and he was heading to the fighting pits to watch Mayleth fight Nurgank. In a one on one battle the outcome was hardly in doubt and so as far as Hazug knew there were no bets being placed on that particular bout worth taking. However, several of Gorgoga’s armoured unit would also be fighting one another. The Goff liked to keep his troops well practiced and he found that such fights were the best practice they could get.

“No thank you.” Sophie replied.
”I’ve seen more than enough orks fighting to last me.” Salia agreed.

“Your loss.” Hazug said.

“Have a good time anyway.” Sophie said.

“Course master’ll ‘ave a good time.” Ratish replied, “Only stupid gits stayin’ ‘ere where dares nought to do.”

“There’s plenty to do.” Salia said, “Picking up everything you’ve been throwing about all day for a start.”

“Well ya knows where we is if ay needs us.” Hazug said to his two human servants and then he turned to leave.

In the dim light of dusk Hazug did not notice the pair of large figures standing where they could watch the door of his hut.

“Dare dey go.” Forknar said, “Da git lover, da grot and da pansy. Now let’s go see dem gits.” And he led the way towards Hauzg’s hut and knocked on the door.

“Coming.” Salia’s voice came from inside and a moment later she opened the door and peered out at the two Snake Bites.

“Oh, you’ve just missed Hazug.” She said, but Forknar reacted by shoving the door fully open and both he and Knull strode inside, shutting the door behind them.
”We aint here to talk to da git lover.” Knull said, “We is just ‘ere to give ‘im a message.”

“Then just give it to us.” Salia replied, rubbing her hand where the rough surface of the door had grazed the skin when the pair of Snake Bites had forced their way inside.

“Oh it aint dat sort of message.” Forknar said, grinning.

Realising that they were in trouble Sophie dived across the room to where hers and Salia’s lasguns were propped up in the corner.

“Salia get back!” she yelled as she took hold of her weapon.

Knull reached out and took hold of Salia before she could get out of the way, squeezing her arm so tight that she cried out in pain.

There was a sharp ‘crack’ accompanied by a flash of white light as Sophie fired her lasgun. The energy bolt clipped Knull’s shoulder and he gave a roar of both pain and anger but kept his grip on Salia. Meanwhile Forknar rushed at Sophie and before she could bring her rifle to bear on him he ripped the weapon from her grasp and smashed it against the wall.

“Useless git zap gun!” he snapped and then he grabbed Sophie by the throat. Almost right away her face went red as she struggled to breathe.
”Let go of her!” Salia protested as she lashed out at Knull, but both of the massive Snake Bite nobs ignored her.

Forcing a rag into Sophie’s mouth, Forknar relaxed his grip enough for her to be able to breathe again and then he turned to look at Salia.
”Dis one is comin’ with us.” He said to her and he shook Sophie, “And when ya master gets back ya can tell ‘im dat some of us still knows wot it means to be an ork and we is gonna deal with da lads in dat fort like dey needs to be dealt with. Now so long ‘as Hazug don’t come after us den ‘e can ‘ave dis other git back when we is finished. Goddit?”

“Please just let us go.” Salia replied.

Forknar looked at Knull.

“Lets find somethin’ to tie ‘em with.” He said, “We don’t want da git lover knowin’ we was ‘ere until we is gone.”

Seven ork vehicles were clustered near the main gate with their engines running when Forknar and Knull arrived. Most of these were the lighter trucks and tracked carriers, but one of the larger battlewagons was also included in the force that the Snake Bites had convinced to disobey Hazug’s orders. Over his shoulder Forknar carried a large sack that twitched as Sophie struggled helplessly inside.
”We got ‘er.” He said to Krurgan and he tossed the sack into the truck that served as their mob’s transport.

“And da other one knows wot to tell Hazug?” Krurgan asked.

“Sure, we told ‘er dat ‘e was to leave us to get on with it.” Knull replied, “We left ‘er tied up so dat she can’t go runnin’ off to tell ‘im before we is gone.”

“In dat case we best get movin’.” Krurgan said and he signalled to the ork mob currently guarding the gate. The unit in question was one of those loyal to him, eleven more Snake Bites including a nob and they had volunteered to guard the gate overnight specifically so that the force could depart unseen. The gates swung open slowly before the guards rushed to their own transport and climbed aboard. Then Krurgan signalled to the driver of his own truck and the vehicle sped through the gate.

There was the sudden roar of a compact jet engine as one of Druken’s stormboys sought to use his rocket pack to boost a leap into the air and aim to land right on top of his opponent from Gorgoga’s mob. The armoured Goff reacted by raising his shield and sheltering beneath it from the blast of jet exhaust. Then when he felt the weight of the stormboy he rolled aside and swung the simple metal bar he was armed with, striking the side of the stormboy’s rocket pack. There was a loud ‘clang’ and a shower of sparks before a cheer went up from the audience.

“Now dis is a good scrap!” Druken exclaimed from beside Hazug, “Much better dan dat pansy of yours against dat Nurgank. I know she drew it out as much as she could, but ‘e wasn’t up to much was ‘e?”

“Dat was just to teach ‘im a lesson.” Hazug replied as he gently stroked Cuddles, “Still, at least it got da crowd warmed up a bit for ya lad ‘ere and Gorgoga’s.”

“Aint much of a crowd though.” Grath suddenly said from the other side of Hazug, “I thought dat ya lot would be more interested in a fight dan dis.”

Hazug looked around the outside of the pit dug in the ground and lined with pointed wooden stakes and saw that Grath was correct, only about half of the warband was present.

“Where’s everyone else?” Hazug said to himself as he studied the faces of those orks who had turned up to watch the evening’s entertainment. The first thing he noticed was that there was not a single Snake Bite present. Drazzok’s absence was only to be expected, the wierdboy would habitually stay clear of anywhere that excited orks gathered in large numbers and the only mob of boys from the clan had been assigned to watch the main gate. But that still left the unit of nobs who Hazug would have expected to be here. He did however notice the painboy, a member of the Bad Moons clan that had accompanied the Snake Bite nobs and he got up to go and talk to him.

“Oi Skarmaker.” Hazug said, addressing he painboy by name, “Where’s da rest of ya mob?”

“Dey aint my mob.” Skarmaker replied, “Dey just paid me to come along with ‘em.”

“Dat don’t answer where dey is tonight.”

“I dunno. I been with Grath and Nuzzug all day tryin’ to make da boss a new leg.” And then Skarmaker looked around the crowd as well and he frowned, “Dat’s odd.” He said, “Dey aint ‘ere. I’d ‘ave though dat dey’d be into dis. In fact I’d ‘ave thought dat one or two of ‘em would ‘ave tried callin’ ya out for a quick bout.”

“Dey aint da only ones missin’ either.” Hazug said, “Dare should be twice da number of lads ‘ere.” And then he walked away, moving through the crowd until he reached Two Heads.

“Wotcha Hazug.” One of him said, “Good fight innit?” and the other head just smiled.

“Yeah, great. But does ya know where any of da Snake Bites is?”

“Well dey is-“ Two Heads began as both heads looked around until they both realised that the Snake Bites were nowhere to be seen,” Dat’s odd.”

“Dare’s more missin’ an’ all. Come with me.” Hazug said, “We is goin’ to go find ‘em.”

Two Heads both frowned at the thought of missing the fight, but he got up without complaining and picked up his rifle. It occurred to Hazug that he had only his pistol with him and if the Snake Bites were up to something then he would need more firepower.

“Ratish!” he called out and after a brief delay the gretchin appeared beside him.
”Yes master?” he asked.

“Go back to da ‘ut and get me shoota.” Hazug said, “Make sure dat dare’s a rokkit loaded. If dare aint den bring me one of dem an’ all.”

“Yes master. Ratish be back soon.”

“Right den,” Hazug said to Two Heads, “let’s take a good look about ‘ere. Make sure dat da Snake Bites and da other lads aint just keepin’ out of sight while dey watches da fight.”

Salia tried to scream when Ratish burst into the hut. Forknar and Knull had left her tied to a chair and gagged, but with Ratish in the room with her he could not help but see her. However, Ratish hated both Salia and Sophie and did not care about her discomfort. Hazug’s instructions had not mentioned anything about either of the humans and so he ignored the struggling Salia as he ran to where Hazug had hidden his weapons beneath the blankets that were to serve as his bed. He took hold of the rifle and one of the compact rockets bundled up with it before rushing to where he kept his own pistol, tucking it into his waistband and heading for the door. All the while he did this Salia stared at him, struggling against her bonds and trying to call out to him.

“Master needs ‘is shoota.” Ratish said to Salia as she looked at him and then he ran from the hut leaving her alone once more.

Hazug took the rifle and rocket without acknowledging Ratish. He and Two Heads were standing in a quiet spot not far from the fighting pit. Their search for the missing orks had proved only that they were not watching the evening’s entertainment from a more discrete location.

“We is gonna need more lads.” One of Two Heads pointed out and then the other one went on, “We should get so of me-“

“I don’t want to use any of da lads at da fight.” Hazug interrupted as he chambered a round in his rifle, “I don’t want any of ‘em to know dat dare may be a problem.”

“But if dare is a problem,” Two Heads replied, “den it’ll take more dan just da two of us and ya grot and squig to deal with it.”

“I knows dat.” Hazug said, “So we needs to go find other lads to ‘elp us.”

“Other lads? But dare aint no other lads – wait, no. Dare is one mob aint dare?” one of Two Heads said in disbelief and then the other one added, “Da nutters.”

“Can ya think of anyone better? We knows dey aint gonna run off.”
”Does we? Some of ‘em may well end up eatin’ dare own feet before we finds Krurgan and da others.”

“Well if dey does dat, dey won’t be able to run off will dey?” Hazug pointed out and both of Two Heads strained as he tried to process this thought.
